Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader died following clashes with BJP workers in East Midnapore during the eighth phase of polling in the West Bengal Lok Sabha elections on Saturday. The incident occurred in Mahishadal, under the Tamluk Lok Sabha constituency, where local TMC leader Sheikh Moibul (42) was killed. According to the district police, the violence erupted early in the morning, leading to Moibul's death. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has demanded an action-taken report on the incident.
Political tensions flared as TMC and BJP exchanged blame for the tragedy. TMC accused BJP activists of the murder, while BJP claimed internal rivalry within TMC was the real cause. Similar poll-related tensions and clashes were reported from other areas in the East Midnapore district, including Moyna and Haldia. The intervention of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) prevented further escalation. In the Ghatal Lok Sabha constituency, BJP candidate Hiran Chatterjee was seen actively supporting party workers at polling booths.
